Public Analyst Simon Utsu Congratulates Newly Appointed MD of SSDC Usoro Akpabio

A notable public affairs analyst, Engr Simon Utsu, has sent his warm congratulations to Ms Usoro Akpabio on her recent appointment as the Managing Director of the South South Development Commission (SSDC).

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved Ms Akpabio’s appointment on Wednesday, 8 May 2025, alongside other key members of the commission.

Speaking from Europe, Engr Utsu praised her career journey and described her new role as a perfect fit. “This is truly a case of the right person in the right job,” he said. “She has the knowledge, experience, and political understanding needed to drive progress in the South-South region.”

He urged people across the region to support Ms Akpabio as she steps into the role, and applauded President Tinubu for breathing life into the new commission.

“Congratulations to Ms Usoro Akpabio – the first-ever Managing Director of the SSDC,” he said. “I’ve known her for some time now, and I can say this role suits her. She brings real expertise in the oil and gas sector, and I believe she’ll leave a strong legacy in both human and infrastructural development.”

He also welcomed the appointment as a step toward improving gender balance in top positions, a cause he has often spoken about.
